Extreme events such as storms, medicane and storm surges, are phenomena that increasingly affect the coasts. This trend is often associated with the current climate emergency, but the new ways in which they manifest are still little known. This poster examines the genesis of some of these phenomena that have hit the European coasts and their consequences on the coast. The work stems from the collection of contributions from AIGEO members of the Universities of: Trieste, Ferrara, Bologna, Genoa, Naples and Bari.

The survey and analysis methodologies along the coast, presented in this work, present different technologies depending on the extent of the area, the type of coast and the objectives that the
authors have set themselves up. The techniques used range from remote sensing and UAV, from modeling to detection instrumental in the field.
This document poses a dilemma. What the community can do scientific? Push towards adaptation to these extreme conditions or to put new defense measures? Or both?
